Job Description
ActionAid Nigeria is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Public Relations Officer to join our growing team in Enugu. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies to enhance the organization’s image, build relationships with key stakeholders, and promote our work to a wider audience. This is a challenging and rewarding role for someone with a proven track record in public relations and a deep commitment to social justice. You will play a critical role in shaping the narrative of our organization and amplifying the voices of the communities we serve. The role demands strong writing, communication, and media relations skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced environment. You’ll be a strategic thinker and problem solver who can effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines. A significant portion of this role will involve direct engagement with local media outlets and building strong relationships with journalists and community leaders. Successful candidates will be able to manage complex information and present it clearly and concisely to diverse audiences. You will be adept at creating engaging content for multiple platforms, including social media, press releases, and website updates. Experience in the NGO sector is a significant advantage, but highly skilled professionals from other industries with a genuine passion for social change are also strongly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies aligned with ActionAid Nigeria's strategic goals.
- Manage media relations, including drafting press releases, responding to media inquiries, and building relationships with journalists.
- Create engaging content for various platforms, including social media, website, and print materials.
- Monitor media coverage and track the organization's reputation.
- Organize and manage public events and press conferences.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and donors.
- Prepare reports and presentations on communications activities and impact.
- Manage the organization's social media accounts and online presence.
Required Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven experience in public relations or communications.
- Strong media relations skills.
- Experience in content creation (writing, editing, social media posting).
- Proficiency in using social media platforms.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
