Job Description
Are you passionate about the outdoors and dedicated to public service? The City of Tampa’s Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a committed and vigilant Park Ranger to join our team. This vital role involves a dynamic blend of public safety, environmental protection, and community engagement within Tampa’s diverse park system. As a Park Ranger, you will be the welcoming face of our parks, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors while protecting our natural resources and facilities. You will patrol designated park areas, both on foot and via vehicle, to enforce park rules and city ordinances, providing assistance and information to the public. Your duties will also include basic maintenance tasks, identifying and reporting hazards, and assisting with emergency situations. Key Responsibilities
- Patrol designated parks and recreational areas to ensure public safety and adherence to park regulations.
- Educate visitors on park rules, local ordinances, and environmental conservation practices.
- Provide information and assistance to park visitors, including directions, facility information, and emergency aid.
- Enforce park rules, city ordinances, and state laws as required, issuing warnings or citations when necessary.
- Respond to incidents, disturbances, and emergencies, including first aid situations, lost persons, and minor disputes.
- Conduct basic maintenance and custodial tasks, inspect facilities, and report needed repairs or safety hazards.
- Monitor wildlife and natural habitats, reporting any unusual activity or concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Assist with special events, programs, and volunteer activities within the parks.
- Prepare clear and concise reports on daily activities, incidents, and observations.
- Collaborate with local law enforcement, emergency services, and other city departments as needed.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Florida Driver's License.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in park operations, public safety, law enforcement, or a related field.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activity in various weather conditions.
- Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire).
- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to customer service.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Environmental Science, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED.
- Experience with wildlife management or environmental education.
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish).
