Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute financial audit engagements from the planning phase through to completion, ensuring strict adherence to established methodologies, quality standards, and project timelines.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements to identify discrepancies, anomalies, potential risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Rigorously evaluate the effectiveness of internal control systems and identify areas for enhancement, providing practical, actionable recommendations to clients.
- Prepare comprehensive and detailed audit workpapers, documentation, and reports in full compliance with International Standards on Auditing (ISAs), IFRS, and all local regulatory requirements.
- Supervise, mentor, and provide constructive feedback on the work of junior audit staff, fostering their professional development and technical proficiency.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with clients to gather necessary information, clarify audit findings, address concerns, and present audit reports.
- Stay continuously updated with the latest accounting standards, auditing techniques, regulatory changes, and industry trends to ensure continuous professional excellence and relevance.
- Assist in the development of robust audit strategies and comprehensive risk assessments for various client engagements.
- Actively contribute to business development initiatives and firm-wide projects as required, demonstrating a commitment to the firm's growth.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in external audit, preferably gained within a reputable accounting or professional services firm.
- Strong understanding and practical application of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and International Standards on Auditing (ISAs).
- Proficiency in audit software and advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and unwavering ethical conduct.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, effectively managing multiple tasks and meeting strict deadlines.
- Proven ability to supervise, coach, and mentor junior audit staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possession of a professional accounting qualification such as ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria) or ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).
