Job Description

The Delaware Division of Public Health seeks a highly skilled and motivated Statistician to join our team. This position plays a vital role in supporting public health initiatives through rigorous data analysis, statistical modeling, and the development of insightful reports. You will collaborate with epidemiologists, researchers, and program managers to address critical public health challenges, contribute to the design and implementation of studies, and provide data-driven recommendations to inform policy and practice. This role demands a strong foundation in statistical methods, excellent communication skills, and a passion for using data to improve public health outcomes. You will work with large, complex datasets, requiring proficiency in statistical software and a keen eye for detail. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently as well as part of a collaborative team environment. We are looking for someone who is organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, while maintaining a high standard of quality. Your work will directly impact the health and well-being of Delaware’s citizens, providing a significant opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct statistical analysis of public health data using appropriate methods and software.
  • Develop and implement statistical models to assess trends, risks, and outcomes.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports summarizing findings and presenting data visualizations.
  • Collaborate with researchers and program staff to design studies and interpret results.
  • Maintain data integrity and ensure accurate data management practices.

Required Skills

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in statistical software packages (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with data visualization techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field.
  • Experience in public health or a related field.
  • Experience working with large datasets.
  • Knowledge of epidemiological methods.
  • Programming experience (e.g., Python).
