Job Description

People’s United Bank is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Accountant to join our dynamic team in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records. This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity to contribute to the success of a well-established financial institution. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and assisting with audits. This role demands proficiency in accounting software and a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements
  • Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings
  • Maintain accurate and organized financial records
  • Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation
  • Assist with internal and external audits
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues across various departments
  • Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies
  • Implement and maintain accounting procedures

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • 3+ years of relevant accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CMA certification
  • Experience in the financial services industry
  • Experience with budgeting and forecasting
  • Knowledge of tax accounting
