Job Description
As a Cellar Master at KWV, you will be the artistic and technical heart of our winemaking operations, playing a pivotal role in maintaining and elevating the esteemed quality of our wines. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of wine production, from grape processing and fermentation to maturation, blending, and preparation for bottling.
- Develop and implement winemaking strategies that align with KWV's brand vision, quality standards, and market objectives.
- Oversee cellar operations, ensuring optimal hygiene, safety, and efficiency across all processes.
- Manage and mentor the cellar team, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous learning, and professional development.
- Conduct sensory evaluation and chemical analysis of wines at various stages of production to ensure quality control and stylistic consistency.
- Collaborate closely with viticulturists to monitor grape quality, harvest timing, and vineyard practices.
- Manage cellar budgets, resource allocation, and inventory of winemaking materials.
- Implement and maintain strict adherence to all relevant food safety, environmental, and industry regulations.
- Drive innovation in winemaking techniques and technologies to enhance product quality and efficiency.
- Act as a brand ambassador, participating in tastings, events, and educational initiatives as required.
- Report on production progress, challenges, and opportunities to senior management.
Required Skills
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Oenology, Viticulture, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in cellar management and winemaking, with significant leadership responsibilities.
- Proven expertise in all facets of wine production, including fermentation science, blending, oak maturation, and quality assurance.
- Exceptional sensory evaluation skills with a refined palate.
- Strong leadership, team management, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrable problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking.
- Proficiency in cellar software and general office applications.
- In-depth knowledge of safety protocols, hygiene standards, and regulatory compliance in winemaking.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Oenology or related discipline.
