Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated, compassionate, and experienced Youth Worker to join our vibrant team at Tholakele Community Project. This pivotal role involves working directly with young people aged 12-25 in the Katlehong community, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to help them navigate the complexities of adolescence and young adulthood. As a Youth Worker, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing engaging programs that address key areas such as education, personal development, health, and social responsibility. You will build trusting relationships with participants, understand their unique needs, and empower them to make positive life choices. Your work will involve facilitating group sessions, organizing community events, providing one-on-one counseling and support, and connecting youth with vital resources. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, plan, and deliver a diverse range of youth programs and activities focused on education, life skills, health, and personal development.
- Provide one-on-one mentorship, counseling, and guidance to young people, addressing their individual needs and challenges.
- Facilitate group discussions, workshops, and recreational activities that promote positive social interaction and skill-building.
- Establish and maintain positive, trusting relationships with youth, their families, and community stakeholders.
- Identify and refer youth to appropriate external support services and resources as needed.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs, collecting feedback and adjusting strategies for continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate records of participant engagement and program activities, ensuring confidentiality.
- Organize and supervise community events, outings, and volunteer opportunities for youth.
- Act as a positive role model, promoting ethical behavior, respect, and responsibility.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to enhance program offerings and community reach.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience in youth development, social work, or community services.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse youth populations.
- Excellent group facilitation and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- Proven empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity.
- Crisis intervention and conflict resolution abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic administrative tasks.
- Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Youth Development, Education, or a related field.
- Prior experience working within townships or underserved communities.
- Knowledge of local community resources and networks in Katlehong.
- Fluency in isiZulu or other local languages prevalent in Katlehong.
