Job Description

Career.supersecrets is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Youth Development Officer to join a leading community development initiative in Yenagoa, Bayelsa. This pivotal role involves designing, implementing, and evaluating programs that empower young people, aged 10-24, across various communities within the state capital. You will be instrumental in fostering positive youth development outcomes, promoting leadership skills, enhancing educational attainment, and encouraging civic engagement among Bayelsa’s youth. This includes facilitating workshops, coordinating mentorship schemes, organizing community events, and providing guidance on career pathways and personal development. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing young people in the Niger Delta region, coupled with an unwavering commitment to their holistic growth. You will collaborate closely with local schools, community leaders, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations to ensure programs are culturally sensitive, relevant, and impactful. Furthermore, you will be responsible for meticulous record-keeping, progress reporting, and contributing to funding proposals, ensuring the sustainability and expansion of youth development efforts. This role offers a unique opportunity to directly influence the future trajectory of Yenagoa’s youth, helping them unlock their full potential and become active, responsible citizens. We are looking for an individual who is not just an administrator but a mentor, an advocate, and a catalyst for positive change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and implement youth development programs focused on education, life skills, leadership, and entrepreneurship.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops, training sessions, and community events for young people.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to youth participants, supporting their personal and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders, including schools, parents, local leaders, and government agencies.
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify key challenges and opportunities for youth in Yenagoa.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, collecting data and preparing comprehensive reports.
  • Manage program budgets and resources efficiently, ensuring accountability.
  • Assist in the development of grant proposals and fundraising activities to secure program sustainability.
  • Represent the organization at local and regional youth forums and events.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in youth development and related fields.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in local Bayelsa languages (e.g., Ijaw, Epie, Ogbia).
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations or in rural communities.
  • Familiarity with grant writing and fundraising.
