Bodegas Vicente Gandia is seeking an experienced and passionate Winemaker (Enologist) to join our esteemed team in Valencia, Spain. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee all stages of the winemaking process, from grape reception and pressing to fermentation, aging, blending, and bottling.
- Monitor wine quality through regular sensory evaluations, laboratory analysis, and adherence to quality control protocols.
- Collaborate with the viticulture team to optimize grape quality, define harvest timing, and implement sustainable vineyard practices.
- Develop and refine winemaking protocols and innovative techniques to enhance wine quality and style.
- Manage cellar operations, including inventory, sanitation, and equipment maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety, hygiene, and environmental regulations.
- Lead and mentor cellar staff, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in blending sessions and contribute to product development, including new wine styles and varietals.
- Maintain detailed records of winemaking processes, analyses, and production data.
- Represent the winery at industry events, tastings, and provide technical insights as needed.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Enology, Viticulture, Food Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a winemaking role, preferably in a medium to large-scale winery.
- Proven knowledge of winemaking chemistry, microbiology, and sensory evaluation.
- Strong understanding of cellar operations, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Ability to make critical decisions under pressure, especially during harvest.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and work effectively in a team.
- Proficiency in Spanish and English (both written and spoken).
- Demonstrated commitment to quality, attention to detail, and a passion for wine.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Enology or related advanced certification.
- Experience with organic or biodynamic winemaking practices.
- Familiarity with winemaking software and data management systems.
- Previous experience working with indigenous Spanish grape varietals.
