Key Responsibilities
- Execute intricate weaving patterns and designs for various products (e.g., baskets, mats, home decor) using local, sustainably sourced materials.
- Maintain high standards of quality control for all handcrafted items, ensuring consistency, precision, and adherence to design specifications.
- Carefully select, prepare, and manage raw materials, including natural fibers, dyes, and other weaving components, minimizing waste.
- Collaborate with fellow artisans and cooperative leaders on new product development, design improvements, and quality assurance processes.
- Adhere to production schedules and delivery timelines to meet market demand and export requirements, ensuring timely completion of orders.
- Contribute to a positive, respectful, and collaborative workshop environment, sharing knowledge and techniques with peers and new members.
- Participate in skill development workshops and training sessions to enhance existing techniques and learn new ones, fostering continuous personal and professional growth.
- Ensure the proper care and maintenance of weaving tools and equipment, promoting longevity and efficiency.
- Document and share traditional weaving knowledge and techniques to preserve cultural heritage for future generations.
- Represent the artisan cooperative and Azizi Life's values of integrity, quality, and fair trade with professionalism in all interactions.
Required Skills
- Proven experience and proficiency in traditional Rwandan weaving techniques (e.g., Agaseke basket weaving, Imigongo designs, mat weaving).
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills for intricate work.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, flawless work.
- Ability to work meticulously and patiently on complex designs and patterns.
- Knowledge of various natural fibers common in Rwanda (e.g., sisal, raffia, papyrus) and their preparation for weaving.
- Basic understanding of color theory and design principles relevant to traditional crafts.
- Ability to follow instructions, interpret design briefs, and work effectively as part of a team.
- Fluency in Kinyarwanda for effective communication within the cooperative.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with natural dyeing techniques to enhance product aesthetics.
- Ability to innovate and adapt traditional designs to contemporary markets while respecting cultural integrity and historical significance.
- Previous experience working within an artisan cooperative or similar community-based craft group.
- Demonstrated ability to train or mentor less experienced weavers, fostering skill transfer and development.

- Basic spoken English or French is a plus for interacting with international visitors, buyers, or partners.
