As a Watersports Instructor at Sandals Montego Bay, you will become an integral part of our vibrant entertainment and activities team, dedicated to providing an unparalleled luxury-included vacation experience. Your primary mission will be to enrich our guests’ stay by safely introducing them to the exhilarating world of watersports amidst the breathtaking beauty of Jamaica’s north coast. We are seeking an individual who not only possesses expert knowledge and proficiency in a diverse range of water activities but also embodies a genuine passion for sharing these experiences with others. Imagine starting your day with the Caribbean sun on your face, preparing to guide a group of enthusiastic guests on a snorkeling adventure through vibrant coral gardens, pointing out exotic marine life. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive safety briefings and ensure adherence to all watersports safety protocols.
- Provide professional instruction and guidance for a variety of watersports including snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, and sailing (Hobie Cat).
- Lead guided watersports excursions, highlighting local marine life and points of interest.
- Maintain all watersports equipment, ensuring cleanliness, functionality, and proper storage.
- Monitor guest activities on and near the water to ensure safety and provide assistance when needed.
- Promote watersports activities and encourage guest participation.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of watersports equipment daily.
- Respond effectively to emergency situations, applying first aid and rescue techniques as required.
- Provide exceptional customer service, anticipating guest needs and exceeding expectations.
- Work collaboratively with the entertainment and activities team to enhance the overall guest experience.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in multiple watersports (e.g., snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing)
- Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED (or equivalent)
- Strong swimming ability and comfort in open water environments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to teach and instruct individuals of varying skill levels
- Commitment to safety and adherence to established protocols
- Physical fitness to perform duties that may involve lifting, carrying, and prolonged periods in the sun/water
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
- Fluent in English
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a watersports instructor, preferably in a resort or hospitality setting
- Additional certifications in specific watersports (e.g., PADI Divemaster/Instructor, Sailing Instructor certification)
- Familiarity with luxury resort service standards
- Multilingual abilities (e.g., Spanish, French, German)
- Knowledge of local marine life and Caribbean ecology
