Sedibeng Water is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Water Treatment Plant Operator to join our dynamic team in Grasvlei, Northern Cape. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor all water treatment plant equipment, including pumps, motors, valves, and chemical feed systems.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on plant machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Conduct regular laboratory tests on raw and treated water samples to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Adjust chemical dosages (e.g., coagulants, disinfectants) based on water quality analysis and operational needs.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of plant operations, maintenance activities, chemical usage, and water quality data.
- Respond promptly to alarms, system malfunctions, and emergencies, initiating corrective actions as required.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and protocols.
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory and process monitoring equipment.
- Assist in the training of new operators and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate effectively with maintenance, engineering, and supervisory staff.
- Participate in remote reporting and administrative tasks as part of the hybrid work model.
Required Skills
- National Diploma in Water Purification, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Water Treatment Plant Operator.
- Valid Class B or higher Water Treatment Plant Operator certification (e.g., DWS Classification).
- Thorough understanding of water treatment processes (coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection).
- Proficiency in water quality testing procedures and interpretation of results.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude for equipment troubleshooting.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in basic computer applications for data entry and report generation.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Physical ability to perform manual tasks, lift heavy objects, and work in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
- Advanced Water Treatment Plant Operator certification.
- Experience with SCADA systems and automated control processes.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of relevant South African water legislation and regulations.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or lead operator role.
