Job Description

Are you a skilled and dedicated technician passionate about ensuring clean, safe, and reliable water for communities? TAVEVO Water and Sewerage Company Ltd. is seeking an experienced Water System Technician to join our dynamic team in Voi, Taita Taveta County. In this vital role, you will be at the forefront of maintaining, repairing, and optimizing our extensive water supply and wastewater treatment systems. You will be responsible for a wide array of technical tasks, from routine inspections and preventative maintenance to emergency repairs and system upgrades. This position requires a proactive individual with strong problem-solving abilities, excellent technical skills, and a steadfast commitment to health and safety standards. You will work both independently and as part of a team, often in field conditions, ensuring the continuous flow of high-quality water to our customers. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on water distribution networks, including pipelines, valves, hydrants, and service connections.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair water pumps, motors, and control systems at various pumping stations and treatment plants.
  • Conduct water quality tests and interpret results, taking corrective actions as necessary to ensure compliance with health standards.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies such as pipe bursts, leaks, and system malfunctions, executing effective and timely repairs.
  • Operate and maintain specialized equipment used in water system management, including excavation equipment, leak detectors, and pipe locators.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to diagnose issues and plan repairs or installations.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, material usage, and system performance data.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with other technicians and engineers to identify system improvements and implement preventative maintenance programs.
  • Educate customers on water conservation and system-related issues when required.

Required Skills

  • Diploma or Certificate in Water Technology, Plumbing, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in water supply, distribution, or wastewater systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of water utility operations, including pumps, valves, and pipe networks.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Valid Kenyan driving license (Class BCE or similar).
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
  • Commitment to safety protocols and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SCADA systems or other remote monitoring technologies.
  • Additional certifications in plumbing, welding, or confined space entry.
  • Knowledge of local water quality regulations and standards (e.g., KEBS).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for team collaboration and public interaction.
