Swartland Municipality is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join our vital waste management team as a Waste Recycling Sorter in Moorreesburg. As a Waste Recycling Sorter, you will play a crucial role at the heart of our recycling operations. Key Responsibilities

  • Manually sort and separate various recyclable materials (e.g., plastics, paper, cardboard, glass, metals) on a conveyor belt or sorting line.
  • Identify and remove contaminants or non-recyclable items from the material stream to ensure quality standards.
  • Ensure sorted materials meet specific criteria for further processing and marketability.
  • Operate and maintain basic recycling equipment as instructed, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and procedures within the sorting facility, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area, including general housekeeping duties to promote a safe and efficient environment.
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of materials, both incoming and outgoing, as required.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding material flow, quality control, and any operational issues.
  • Contribute to a positive and cooperative team environment, supporting colleagues and working collaboratively to meet daily targets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support overall waste management and recycling operations within the municipality.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks and stand for extended periods.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Basic understanding of different recyclable materials (training will be provided).
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Physical fitness to lift and move materials weighing up to 20kg occasionally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a sorting, manufacturing, or similar physically demanding role.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills for reading instructions and recording data.
  • Knowledge of environmental best practices or waste management principles.
