Job Description
Are you a hardworking and dedicated individual looking to contribute to your community’s well-being and environmental health? COPED is seeking enthusiastic and reliable Waste Management Collectors to join our team in Kibuye, Karongi District. This vital role involves the systematic collection, sorting, and transportation of waste materials from residential, commercial, and public areas. As a Waste Management Collector, you will be on the front lines of our efforts to maintain a clean environment, prevent disease, and promote sustainable living practices. You will work outdoors, engaging directly with the community, and play a crucial part in our integrated waste management system, ensuring that waste is handled responsibly from collection point to processing facilities. Key Responsibilities
- Collect waste and recyclable materials from designated collection points (homes, businesses, public bins) according to established routes and schedules.
- Safely load waste into collection vehicles, ensuring proper segregation of materials where applicable.
- Operate and maintain waste collection equipment responsibly, including basic pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and environmental regulations during waste handling and transportation.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and collection vehicle.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and community members regarding collection schedules or issues.
- Assist in sorting collected waste at designated transfer or processing sites as required.
- Report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or unusual waste incidents to supervisors promptly.
- Represent COPED professionally and courteously to the public, acting as an ambassador for our environmental mission.
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform demanding manual labor for extended periods.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 25 kg) repeatedly throughout the workday.
- Strong work ethic and reliability, with a commitment to adhering to schedules.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic communication skills in Kinyarwanda.
- Commitment to safety and environmental best practices.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn and adapt.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in waste collection, sanitation, or general labor roles.
- Familiarity with the geography and communities of Kibuye, Karongi District.
- Basic understanding of waste segregation and recycling principles.
- Valid driving license (Category B or C) is a plus, though not required for all positions.
