Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically fit Waste Collector to join our essential services team in Kamieskroon. As a Waste Collector, you will be on the front lines of our efforts to maintain a clean and hygienic environment for all residents of Nama Khoi. This role involves the manual collection and loading of refuse from residential, commercial, and public areas, ensuring that waste is collected efficiently and safely. You will work as part of a committed team, contributing directly to public health and the aesthetic appeal of our town. The ideal candidate will be reliable, safety-conscious, and possess a strong work ethic, ready to tackle the demands of this crucial community service role. You will be expected to adhere strictly to all municipal guidelines and safety protocols while operating and around waste collection vehicles and equipment. Key Responsibilities
- Manually collect and load refuse, recycling, and other designated waste materials from designated pick-up points into municipal waste collection vehicles.
- Operate compaction mechanisms and other waste collection equipment safely and efficiently as directed.
- Follow established routes and schedules to ensure timely and complete waste collection across assigned areas.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and municipal policies during all operations.
- Assist with the cleaning and maintenance of waste collection vehicles and equipment, reporting any malfunctions or damage promptly.
- Interact professionally and courteously with residents and the public while on duty.
- Participate in team briefings and contribute to a positive and productive work environment.
- Report any issues, hazards, or challenges encountered during collection activities to the team leader or supervisor.
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform manual labour, including lifting heavy loads (up to 25kg) and prolonged standing/walking.
- Ability to work effectively outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic communication skills to interact with colleagues and the public.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in waste management, general labour, or a similar physically demanding role.
- Valid Code 10 (C1) or higher South African driver's license with a Public Driver's Permit (PDP) for operating larger vehicles, though not strictly required for all positions.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills to understand instructions and complete basic paperwork.
