Job Description
Are you a passionate educator with a heart for youth empowerment? SOS Children’s Villages Kenya is seeking a dedicated Vocational Training Instructor to join our dynamic team in Gilgil. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of young individuals by delivering high-quality, practical vocational training. You will design and implement engaging curricula, provide hands-on instruction, and offer mentorship to ensure our youth acquire marketable skills essential for securing gainful employment or pursuing entrepreneurship. This position demands creativity, patience, and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing young people in vocational education. You will foster a positive and supportive learning environment, track student progress, and continuously adapt training methods to meet evolving industry standards and individual learning needs. Your work will directly contribute to our mission of helping young people transition successfully into independent adulthood, making a tangible difference in their lives and the broader community. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and update vocational training curricula, lesson plans, and teaching materials aligned with market demands and national standards.
- Deliver engaging and practical hands-on training sessions in your area of expertise (e.g., carpentry, tailoring, hospitality, ICT, electrical installation) to youth beneficiaries.
- Assess student progress through practical assignments, examinations, and observations, providing constructive feedback and support.
- Provide mentorship and career guidance to students, assisting them in developing life skills, job search strategies, and entrepreneurship mindsets.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and program outcomes.
- Manage and maintain training equipment, tools, and facilities, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment.
- Collaborate with local industries and potential employers to facilitate internships and job placement opportunities for graduates.
- Participate in community outreach activities to promote vocational training programs and recruit eligible youth.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in vocational education to continuously enhance program relevance and effectiveness.
Required Skills
- Proven vocational expertise and practical experience in a relevant trade.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with young people from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective training programs.
- Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for youth development and education.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- A Diploma or Certificate in Technical Education or a relevant vocational field.
- Prior experience working with vulnerable youth or in a non-profit setting.
- Certification as a Trainer of Trainers (ToT).
- Familiarity with the local socio-economic context and employment landscape in Gilgil and Nakuru County.
- Proficiency in Swahili and English.
