Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Veterinarian to join our dedicated team at Kigali Animal Hospital. This is an incredible opportunity for a skilled professional to make a significant impact on animal health and welfare in Rwanda. As a Veterinarian, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental care to a wide range of animals, primarily small animals, but with potential for some large animal exposure depending on demand and your expertise. You will engage directly with clients, offering empathetic communication, educating them on optimal pet care, and building lasting relationships based on trust and respect. This role requires a strong commitment to continuous learning, adherence to best veterinary practices, and a proactive approach to patient care. You will work within a supportive team, contributing to a positive and efficient clinic atmosphere, handling both routine appointments and emergency cases. Your expertise will be crucial in diagnosing illnesses, prescribing treatments, performing surgeries, and ensuring the overall health and comfort of our animal patients. We are looking for someone who shares our passion for animal well-being and is eager to contribute to our growing reputation as a trusted veterinary service provider in Kigali.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive physical examinations and accurately diagnose animal health conditions.
  • Develop and implement effective treatment plans, including prescribing medications and therapies.
  • Perform various surgical procedures, including routine spays/neuters, soft tissue surgeries, and emergency interventions.
  • Administer vaccinations and perform preventive care measures.
  • Educate pet owners on animal health, nutrition, preventive care, and zoonotic diseases.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for all patients.
  • Handle emergency cases promptly and efficiently.
  • Collaborate effectively with veterinary technicians, assistants, and administrative staff.
  • Provide compassionate euthanasia services when necessary, offering support to grieving pet owners.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development activities.

Required Skills

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent.
  • Current and valid veterinary license to practice in Rwanda.
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-graduate clinical experience.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic techniques (e.g., radiography, ultrasound, laboratory testing).
  • Strong surgical and dental skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with empathy for both animals and their owners.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle emergency situations.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Fluency in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with both small and large animal practice.
  • Proficiency in Kinyarwanda.
  • Advanced certifications in specialized veterinary fields.
  • Experience with veterinary practice management software.
  • A strong interest in community outreach and animal welfare initiatives.
