Job Description

Career.supersecrets is proud to partner with a prestigious university in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in its search for a distinguished and dynamic University Provost. This critical leadership position is responsible for providing intellectual and administrative leadership to the entire academic enterprise of the institution. The Provost serves as the chief academic officer, reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor, and plays a pivotal role in shaping the university’s strategic direction, academic priorities, and overall educational mission.

The successful candidate will be a visionary leader with a profound understanding of the evolving landscape of higher education. They will be tasked with fostering an environment of academic excellence, promoting innovative teaching methodologies, supporting groundbreaking research, and ensuring an enriching and inclusive experience for all students and faculty. Key responsibilities extend beyond daily academic operations to include long-range planning, curriculum development, faculty recruitment and retention, budget management for academic divisions, and the promotion of interdisciplinary collaboration. The Provost will champion initiatives that enhance student success, from admissions and retention to graduate outcomes, ensuring the university remains a beacon of learning and opportunity. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all academic programs, research initiatives, and faculty affairs.
  • Work closely with the Vice-Chancellor and other senior leaders to develop and implement the university’s strategic plan.
  • Oversee curriculum development, academic quality assurance, and accreditation processes.
  • Lead faculty recruitment, retention, promotion, and professional development efforts.
  • Manage academic budgets and resources effectively, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Foster an inclusive and equitable academic environment that promotes diversity and student success.
  • Represent the university in local, national, and international academic forums.
  • Drive initiatives for interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative pedagogical approaches.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including government, industry, and the community, to build partnerships and secure funding.
  • Monitor and evaluate academic performance against institutional goals and benchmarks.

Required Skills

  • Proven senior academic leadership experience, preferably at Dean level or higher.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and lead a diverse faculty and staff.
  • Strong understanding of higher education trends, policies, and regulatory environments.
  • Exceptional strategic planning and execution capabilities.
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • A track record of fostering academic excellence and innovation.
  • Doctorate degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing complex budgets within a higher education setting.
  • A strong record of scholarly achievement and research funding.
  • Familiarity with the higher education landscape in the UK and Ireland.
  • Experience in international academic partnerships and global engagement.
