Job Description

Oxford Brookes University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced University Lecturer in Physics to join our dynamic and growing Department of Physics. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and stimulating lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions to undergraduate and postgraduate students. They will also be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of the Physics curriculum, supervise student projects, and participate in departmental research activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and a passion for sharing their knowledge of Physics. This role presents a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the education of the next generation of physicists and to work within a collaborative and supportive academic environment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in research projects relevant to their interests, potentially leading to securing external funding opportunities and advancing their own research agenda. They will also contribute to departmental administration tasks, such as curriculum development and committee work. The role requires strong communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to effectively engage with students from diverse backgrounds. Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering high-quality lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Developing and delivering new curriculum materials for Physics courses.
  • Supervising student projects and providing guidance to students.
  • Participating in departmental research activities and potentially leading research projects.
  • Contributing to departmental administration and committee work.
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to teaching excellence and student engagement.

Required Skills

  • PhD in Physics or a closely related field.
  • Proven experience in teaching Physics at the university level.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging and effective teaching materials.
  • Experience in supervising student projects.
  • Commitment to high-quality teaching and student support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postdoctoral research experience.
  • Experience in securing external research funding.
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience with online learning technologies.
