Job Description
We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Underwriter to join our dynamic team in Monroe, Louisiana. In this critical role, you will be responsible for evaluating, analyzing, and assessing the credit risk of various loan applications, including commercial, consumer, and mortgage loans. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of financial statements, credit analysis principles, and regulatory compliance within the banking sector. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough financial analysis of loan applications, including reviewing credit reports, tax returns, financial statements, and other relevant documentation.
- Evaluate creditworthiness, collateral, and overall risk factors associated with commercial, consumer, and mortgage loan requests.
- Ensure all underwriting activities comply with Origin Bank's lending policies, procedures, and relevant state and federal regulations.
- Prepare comprehensive credit memoranda and presentations, clearly articulating risk assessments and recommended lending decisions.
- Collaborate effectively with loan officers to gather necessary information, clarify application details, and communicate underwriting decisions.
- Identify potential risks and mitigating factors, proposing alternative solutions or structuring options when appropriate.
- Participate in loan committee meetings, presenting and defending underwriting recommendations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, economic conditions, and regulatory changes impacting credit risk.
- Assist in the development and refinement of underwriting guidelines and procedures.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in financial statement analysis and credit risk assessment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound, data-driven decisions under pressure.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Knowledge of banking regulations and compliance standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Certification in credit analysis or risk management.
- Experience with commercial real estate or C&I lending.
