Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Long-Haul Truck Driver to join our dynamic logistics team, playing a crucial role in our extensive supply chain network. This position is central to facilitating the seamless movement of goods, primarily supporting our overseas freight operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of diverse cargo across long distances, predominantly within Kenya and often involving cross-border routes, connecting vital trade hubs like the port of Mombasa with inland destinations, including Mandera. Your primary duty will involve operating heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs) to transport freight from our depots, client warehouses, or production facilities to designated international shipping points at the port, or conversely, delivering imported goods from the port to their final destinations. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, especially concerning cargo security, adherence to strict delivery schedules, and compliance with all national and international transport regulations, including customs procedures for cross-border movements. You will be expected to conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, perform minor maintenance tasks, and meticulously complete all necessary paperwork, including waybills, manifests, and customs declarations. Effective communication with our dispatch, logistics, and customs clearance teams is paramount to resolve any issues encountered en route promptly. Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs) safely and efficiently for long-haul routes across Kenya and potentially cross-border.
- Transport goods, including general cargo and specialized freight, to and from key locations such as the port of Mombasa and inland destinations like Mandera.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers, ensuring they are roadworthy and compliant with safety standards.
- Monitor cargo loading and offloading processes, ensuring proper securing and integrity of goods.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, pickups, mileage, fuel consumption, and any incidents encountered.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, company policies, road safety regulations, and customs procedures for international transit.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, logistics managers, and customs agents regarding delivery status, delays, or issues.
- Perform minor vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting on the road as needed.
- Ensure timely delivery of goods while optimizing routes and managing time efficiently.
- Represent Siginon Group professionally at all times when interacting with clients, port authorities, and regulatory bodies.
Required Skills
- Valid Class G or CE driving license (Kenya/East Africa equivalent) with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a long-haul truck driver, preferably with experience in cross-border logistics.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Kenyan road networks and major trade corridors.
- Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of road safety regulations and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively under pressure.
- Proficiency in basic English and Swahili for communication and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Defensive Driving.
