Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy and specialized vehicles for long-haul routes across South Africa.
- Perform comprehensive pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
- Secure cargo properly to prevent shifting or damage during transit, adhering to all load securement regulations.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, company policies, and provincial/national transportation regulations.
- Maintain accurate electronic and paper logbooks, recording driving hours, rest periods, and deliveries.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, logistics managers, and customers regarding delivery schedules, delays, or issues.
- Manage fuel consumption efficiently and handle necessary paperwork, including bills of lading and delivery notes.
- Ensure timely delivery of goods to designated locations while adhering to route plans.
- Represent the company professionally to clients and the public at all times.
Required Skills
- Valid Code 14 (EC) driver's license with a PrDP (Professional Driving Permit)
- Clean driving record with no major infractions or accidents for the past 5 years
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a long-haul truck driver
- Thorough knowledge of South African transportation regulations and safety standards
- Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance checks and troubleshooting
- Excellent time management and organizational skills to meet tight schedules
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently for extended periods and adapt to varying conditions
