Job Description

Are you a seasoned and reliable long-haul truck driver with a passion for the open road and a commitment to safe, timely freight delivery? Bolloré Logistics Rwanda is seeking a dedicated Truck Driver – Long-Haul (Freight Transport) to join our dynamic team based in Burera, Northern Province. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods across long distances, primarily within Rwanda and potentially to neighboring East African countries. This isn’t just a driving job; it’s an opportunity to be the backbone of our logistics operations, ensuring that vital cargo reaches its destination, supporting businesses and communities.

As a long-haul driver with Bolloré Logistics, you will meticulously plan routes, adhere to strict delivery schedules, and manage all necessary documentation for freight and customs clearance. You will be expected to conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of your vehicle, ensuring it is in optimal working condition and reporting any maintenance issues promptly to the fleet management team. Safety is paramount, and you will be required to operate our modern fleet in full compliance with all national and international traffic laws, company policies, and health and safety regulations. The role demands excellent navigational skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving on the road, and the ability to adapt to varying road conditions and environmental factors. Furthermore, strong communication skills are essential for interacting effectively with dispatch, clients, and customs officials, ensuring a smooth and transparent freight movement process. You will play a vital part in maintaining the integrity of our cargo and the reputation of Bolloré Logistics as a trusted logistics partner. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently operate heavy-duty trucks for long-haul freight transport across designated routes within Rwanda and potentially East Africa.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, including tires, lights, brakes, fluid levels, and cargo securement.
  • Plan and optimize routes to ensure timely delivery, considering traffic, road conditions, and regulatory requirements.
  • Accurately complete all necessary paperwork, including logbooks, bills of lading, customs declarations, and incident reports.
  • Communicate regularly with dispatch and logistics coordinators regarding pick-up and delivery schedules, delays, or any on-road issues.
  • Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, road safety regulations, and company policies, ensuring cargo security and personal safety.
  • Manage fuel consumption efficiently and perform minor roadside repairs if necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and organized vehicle cab.
  • Represent Bolloré Logistics professionally at all times when interacting with clients, customs officials, and the public.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations, including those related to hazardous materials transport where applicable.

Required Skills

  • Valid Class CE or equivalent heavy vehicle driving license in Rwanda.
  • Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience as a long-haul truck driver.
  • Proven track record of safe driving and adherence to traffic laws.
  • Excellent knowledge of Rwandan road networks and potentially East African routes.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle mechanics for basic troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English and Kinyarwanda.
  • Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects and perform manual labor as required for loading/unloading.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with GPS navigation systems and route optimization software.
  • Familiarity with cross-border customs procedures for East African Community (EAC) countries.
  • Certification in defensive driving or hazardous materials transport.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid.
