Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate heavy-duty trucks for long-distance freight delivery routes.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles and cargo.
- Load and unload cargo safely, securing it properly to prevent damage during transit.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, transportation regulations, and company safety policies.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving activities, mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery records.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and other team members regarding delivery status, delays, or issues.
- Ensure timely delivery of goods to designated locations.
- Perform minor roadside repairs if necessary and report any major mechanical issues promptly.
- Represent Transcom Logistics Rwanda professionally at all times.
- Manage trip planning, including route optimization and adherence to schedule.
Required Skills
- Valid Class CE (or equivalent heavy vehicle) driving license with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience as a long-distance truck driver.
- Proven knowledge of Rwandan traffic laws and transportation regulations.
- Excellent navigational skills and familiarity with major routes across Rwanda.
- Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of responsibility and reliability.
- Physical fitness to handle long hours of driving and occasional manual labor.
- Proficiency in Kinyarwanda, with working knowledge of English or French.
Preferred Qualifications
- Defensive driving certification or advanced driver training.
- Experience with GPS navigation systems and electronic logging devices (ELDs).
- Additional language proficiency (e.g., Swahili, English, French).
- Hazardous materials endorsement (though not strictly required for general freight).
