This role is crucial for our distribution network, ensuring the timely and safe transport of goods across long distances. As a Long-Distance Truck Driver, you will be a pivotal member of the Career.supersecrets logistics team, responsible for the secure delivery of various cargo from our Wajir hub to diverse destinations across Kenya, often involving routes through challenging terrains. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy-duty trucks (e.g., articulated lorries, rigid trucks) for long-distance deliveries across Wajir County and other designated regions in Kenya.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any defects, damages, or maintenance needs promptly.
- Ensure timely and efficient delivery of goods to various destinations, adhering to planned routes and schedules.
- Verify cargo against manifests and loading documents to ensure accuracy and report any discrepancies.
- Secure cargo properly to prevent damage during transit, utilizing appropriate strapping, blocking, and bracing techniques.
- Maintain accurate logbooks of driving hours, rest periods, mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery records.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, company safety policies, and transportation regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, warehouse personnel, and clients regarding delivery status, delays, or issues.
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks and emergency roadside repairs when necessary.
- Represent Career.supersecrets professionally at all times while on the road and at client locations.
Required Skills
- Valid Class BCE/CE driving license with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 3 years (36 months) proven experience as a long-distance truck driver.
- Proficient knowledge of Kenyan traffic laws and transportation regulations.
- Strong understanding of vehicle mechanics for routine inspections and minor troubleshooting.
- Excellent defensive driving skills and commitment to road safety.
- Ability to read maps, use GPS navigation systems, and plan efficient routes.
- Physical fitness and stamina to handle long hours of driving and occasional manual loading/unloading.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, in English and Swahili.
- High level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate in Defensive Driving from a recognized institution.
- Experience with various types of cargo, including perishable goods or dangerous materials (with relevant certification).
- Familiarity with tracking and telematics systems.
- Basic first aid certification.
