Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly analytical Transportation Network Planner to join our dynamic team in Beira. This critical role is central to optimizing our logistics and transportation operations, ensuring the efficient movement of cargo through the Port of Beira and its hinterland connections. The Transportation Network Planner will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and improving our transportation networks, including road, rail, and sea connections, to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service delivery. This involves leveraging advanced planning tools, data analysis, and collaborating with various stakeholders to develop robust and scalable solutions. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of supply chain logistics, port operations, and transport infrastructure challenges specific to the Southern African region. You will contribute to strategic initiatives that directly impact our operational effectiveness and our role as a key gateway for regional trade. Key Responsibilities
- Design, analyze, and optimize transportation networks for various modes (road, rail, sea) to improve efficiency, reduce transit times, and lower costs.
- Develop and implement strategic transportation plans, including route optimization, fleet utilization, and capacity planning.
- Utilize advanced planning software and data analytics tools to model scenarios, predict demand, and assess network performance.
- Collaborate with internal departments (operations, commercial, IT) and external partners (shipping lines, freight forwarders, rail operators) to integrate network plans.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to transportation and logistics, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for new transportation routes, infrastructure investments, and technology upgrades.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with transportation operations, including regulatory changes, infrastructure limitations, and security concerns.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations on network performance, planning outcomes, and strategic recommendations for senior management.
- Stay abreast of industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes in transportation and logistics, particularly within Southern Africa.
- Contribute to the development of robust contingency plans to address disruptions in the transportation network.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in transportation planning, network design, or logistics optimization, preferably within a port or large-scale logistics environment.
- Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS), enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with expertise in data analysis and statistical modeling.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data visualization tools.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment.
- Fluent in English and Portuguese (both written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related quantitative field.
- Professional certification in logistics or supply chain (e.g., CSCP, CPIM, CTL).
- Experience with optimization software (e.g., Llamasoft, JDA, SAP APO).
- Knowledge of international shipping regulations and customs procedures.
- Familiarity with the specific transportation infrastructure and challenges in Mozambique and the SADC region.
