Job Description
The Transportation Manager will be responsible for the entire transportation network for agricultural produce, from farm to market. This includes planning, organizing, and controlling all aspects of the transportation process, ensuring the safe and timely delivery of high-quality produce while minimizing costs. You will work closely with farmers, distributors, and internal teams to optimize logistics and maintain strong relationships throughout the supply chain. This role demands strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills, coupled with a deep understanding of the agricultural sector in Nasarawa State. The ideal candidate will possess proven experience in managing transportation logistics within a demanding, time-sensitive environment, specifically related to perishable goods like agricultural produce. A successful candidate will excel at building and maintaining effective relationships with carriers and drivers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. Excellent analytical skills are crucial for monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and identifying areas for improvement in efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement efficient transportation strategies to ensure timely delivery of agricultural produce.
- Manage a fleet of vehicles and drivers, ensuring optimal vehicle maintenance and driver performance.
- Negotiate contracts with carriers and other transportation providers.
- Monitor transportation costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to track transportation efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant transportation regulations and safety standards.
- Manage transportation documentation, including waybills, delivery receipts, and other relevant paperwork.
- Resolve transportation-related issues and challenges promptly and efficiently.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as procurement and sales, to ensure smooth logistics operations.
- Maintain accurate records and reporting of all transportation activities.
