The Akwa Ibom State Civil Service Commission, on behalf of the Ministry of Lands and Urban Development, is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Town Planner to join our dynamic team in Uyo. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive site analyses, feasibility studies, and environmental impact assessments for proposed developments.
- Develop, review, and update master plans, urban development plans, and zoning ordinances in line with the state's vision and national planning guidelines.
- Process and evaluate development applications, building plans, and land use change requests, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and approved plans.
- Provide expert advice and technical guidance to government agencies, private developers, and the public on planning policies, regulations, and best practices.
- Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, environmentalists, and socio-economic experts, on various urban development projects.
- Engage with local communities and stakeholders through public hearings, workshops, and consultations to gather input and foster participatory planning processes.
- Monitor and enforce development control measures to ensure adherence to approved plans and prevent unauthorised constructions.
- Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and policy briefs on planning matters for senior management and relevant government committees.
- Stay abreast of national and international trends, innovations, and legislation in urban planning and sustainable development.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of spatial data infrastructure (GIS) for effective planning and decision-making.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Town Planning, or a related field.
- Proficiency in urban planning software (e.g., AutoCAD, ArcGIS, SketchUp, QGIS).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with an aptitude for spatial reasoning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reports, presentations, and public engagement.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian urban and regional planning laws, policies, and regulations.
- Ability to interpret and prepare complex maps, plans, and technical documents accurately.
- Demonstrated project management skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Proven experience in community engagement and stakeholder management.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, or a closely related discipline.
- Membership of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP).
- Registration with the Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria (TOPREC).
- Experience working with a government planning authority or a reputable urban planning consulting firm.
- Familiarity with environmental sustainability principles, smart city concepts, and resilience planning.
- Proficiency in additional local languages (e.g., Ibibio, Efik) would be a distinct advantage for community interaction.
