Job Description

We are seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and certified Tour Guide to join our dynamic team at Tinapa Lakeside Hotel. This role is perfect for an individual with an intimate understanding of Calabar’s history, culture, ecology, and hidden gems. As a Certified Tour Guide, you will be the face of our guests’ exploration, leading them through captivating journeys across the city and its surrounding areas. From the historical Calabar Old Residency and the poignant Slave History Museum to the serene Kwa Falls and the bustling Calabar Marina, you will bring these sites to life with engaging commentary, insightful anecdotes, and a genuine enthusiasm for sharing Calabar’s story. You will be responsible for creating enriching and safe experiences for individuals and groups, ensuring their comfort, satisfaction, and safety throughout their tours. This position requires not only deep local knowledge but also excellent communication skills, adaptability, and a strong commitment to outstanding customer service. You will represent the high standards of Tinapa Lakeside Hotel, ensuring every tour reflects our dedication to quality and guest satisfaction. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engaging and informative tours for hotel guests and external visitors to various cultural, historical, and natural attractions in Calabar and Cross River State.
  • Develop and deliver compelling narratives about Calabar's history, culture, biodiversity, and local way of life.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all tour participants, adhering to all safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Manage group dynamics effectively, ensuring all participants have a positive and inclusive experience.
  • Provide excellent customer service, addressing guest inquiries, concerns, and needs promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all tour sites, local events, and relevant historical information.
  • Collaborate with hotel staff, including reception and concierge, to coordinate tour schedules and logistics.
  • Assist in the development of new tour packages and itineraries based on guest feedback and seasonal attractions.
  • Handle tour-related administrative tasks, including booking confirmations and expense tracking.
  • Promote other hotel services and amenities to guests during tours.

Required Skills

  • Certified Tour Guide qualification from a recognized institution.
  • In-depth knowledge of Calabar and Cross River State's history, culture, geography, and attractions.
  • Fluent in English, with excellent verbal communication and public speaking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a friendly and engaging personality.
  • Ability to manage groups of varying sizes and demographics effectively.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle unexpected situations calmly.
  • Basic first aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain quickly).
  • Punctual, reliable, and highly organized.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (if driving tours).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in additional local languages (e.g., Efik, Ejagham, Ibibio).
  • Previous experience as a tour guide in Calabar or a similar region.
  • Knowledge of sustainable tourism practices and eco-tourism principles.
  • Degree or diploma in Tourism, Hospitality, History, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • Experience with diverse international clientele.
