Flow Jamaica is seeking an experienced Telecommunications Technician to join our dedicated team in Kingston. The Telecommunications Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of various telecommunication systems, including fiber optics, copper cabling, and wireless networks. You will work both at customer premises and within our network infrastructure, diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues, performing preventative maintenance, and installing new equipment. This position requires a strong technical aptitude, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service. Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, test, and maintain telecommunication services, including broadband internet, digital television, and fixed-line telephone services, at customer premises and designated network points.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues related to service disruptions, network outages, and equipment malfunctions.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on fiber optic cables, copper wiring, and wireless network components.
- Splice fiber optic cables, terminate copper wiring, and ensure proper grounding and bonding.
- Configure and activate customer premises equipment (CPE) such as modems, routers, set-top boxes, and VoIP devices.
- Conduct signal strength tests and quality assurance checks to ensure service parameters meet company standards.
- Maintain accurate records of all work performed, including installations, repairs, material usage, and network changes, utilizing company software and systems.
- Provide clear, concise, and professional technical support and guidance to customers, explaining technical concepts in an understandable manner.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, company policies, and industry regulations.
- Participate in an on-call rotation schedule for emergency service restoration and support outside of regular business hours.
- Collaborate effectively with other departments, including customer service, network operations, and engineering, to resolve complex issues.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience in telecommunications installation, maintenance, or repair.
- Strong understanding of fiber optic, copper cabling, and wireless network technologies.
- Proficiency in using telecommunications test equipment, including OTDRs, VFLs, power meters, and multimeters.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and network diagrams.
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with a methodical approach to problem-solving.
- Valid Jamaican driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, work at heights, and perform duties in various weather conditions and confined spaces.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or technical certification in Telecommunications, Electronics, or a related field.
- Experience with specific vendor equipment (e.g., Cisco, Nokia, Huawei) commonly used in telecommunications networks.
- Knowledge of IP networking principles and protocols (TCP/IP).
- Certifications in fiber optic splicing (e.g., FOA) or network cabling.
- Previous experience with IPTV systems and VoIP technology.
