Key Responsibilities
- Support the class teacher in planning and delivering engaging learning activities for individuals and groups of pupils.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to children, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and English as an Additional Language (EAL).
- Assist with the preparation and organisation of learning materials, classroom displays, and resources.
- Help to manage pupil behaviour, promoting a positive and respectful learning environment in line with school policies.
- Monitor and record pupils' progress, feeding back observations to the class teacher.
- Support pupils' social, emotional, and physical development, fostering their independence and self-esteem.
- Assist with pastoral care, including supervising pupils during break times, lunchtimes, and school trips.
- Contribute to the assessment process, identifying areas where pupils may need additional support or challenge.
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all pupils, adhering to safeguarding procedures.
- Participate in relevant professional development opportunities and staff meetings.
Required Skills
- Relevant Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools)
- Proven experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school setting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building rapport with children, staff, and parents
- Strong understanding of child development and different learning styles
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children's learning and well-being
- Good literacy and numeracy skills
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience supporting children with specific Special Educational Needs (SEN)
- Training in First Aid (Paediatric First Aid desirable)
- Experience with specific intervention programmes (e.g., phonics, reading recovery)
- Familiarity with the UK Primary National Curriculum
