Job Description
Biogen is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Sustainability Coordinator to join our Global Facilities and Engineering team in Cambridge, MA. This role is crucial in supporting the implementation and advancement of Biogen’s ambitious sustainability initiatives across our operations, with a particular focus on our Cambridge campus. The Sustainability Coordinator will play a key role in data collection, analysis, program coordination, and communication efforts aimed at reducing our environmental footprint, promoting resource efficiency, and fostering a culture of sustainability among employees. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection, tracking, and analysis of environmental data (e.g., energy, water, waste, greenhouse gas emissions) to support sustainability reporting, target setting, and performance monitoring.
- Support the planning, coordination, and execution of sustainability programs and projects, including energy efficiency initiatives, waste diversion efforts, responsible sourcing, and employee engagement campaigns.
- Prepare engaging presentations, comprehensive reports, and compelling communication materials to raise awareness, share progress, and educate employees on sustainability best practices and company achievements.
- Liaise with various internal departments (e.g., Facilities, EHS, Procurement, Communications, R&D) to integrate sustainability principles into daily operations, strategic planning, and capital projects.
- Conduct research on best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements related to corporate sustainability and environmental management, recommending innovative solutions.
- Help manage relationships with external vendors, consultants, and community partners involved in sustainability projects, ensuring effective collaboration and delivery.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of Biogen's annual sustainability report, CDP disclosures, and other public environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting requirements.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a sustainability, environmental management, corporate social responsibility, or closely related role.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Strong analytical skills with proven proficiency in data collection, manipulation, analysis, and reporting tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, specialized sustainability software).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly, concisely, and persuasively to diverse internal and external audiences.
- Demonstrated project coordination and organizational skills, with an ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) and global sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD) is highly valued.
- Proven passion for environmental stewardship, corporate responsibility, and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Management, Sustainable Development, or Business Administration.
- Experience working within a corporate environment, preferably in the life sciences, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical industry.
- Professional certification (e.g., LEED Green Associate, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), ISSP-SA).
- Experience with employee engagement programs, change management initiatives, or internal communications related to sustainability.
- Proficiency with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and presentation software.
