Job Description
Are you a compassionate and dedicated Speech and Language Therapist seeking a rewarding role within a dynamic and supportive NHS Trust? The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled individual to join our dedicated Speech and Language Therapy team based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive speech and language therapy services to a diverse caseload of adult and/or paediatric patients, depending on your specialism and the needs of our service. Your work will encompass the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of communication and swallowing difficulties (dysphagia) arising from a wide range of medical conditions, including neurological disorders, stroke, head and neck cancer, learning disabilities, and developmental delays.
You will work autonomously within professional guidelines, managing your own caseload, and collaborating closely with doctors, nurses, dietitians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals. This role requires excellent clinical reasoning skills, a patient-centred approach, and the ability to adapt your therapeutic interventions to meet individual patient needs and goals.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and differential diagnosis of communication and swallowing disorders.
- Develop and implement evidence-based individualised treatment plans and therapeutic interventions.
- Manage a diverse caseload of patients with varying complexities across different clinical settings.
- Provide advice, training, and support to patients, their families, carers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure holistic patient care.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely patient records in accordance with professional and Trust standards.
- Participate in clinical supervision, peer review, and continuous professional development (CPD) activities.
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives within the Speech and Language Therapy department.
Required Skills
- BSc or MSc in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent.
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Evidence of post-registration experience (minimum 2 years) working as a Speech and Language Therapist.
- Demonstrable experience in assessing and managing a range of communication and swallowing disorders.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-working skills.
- Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage a complex caseload effectively.
- Commitment to patient-centred care and continuous professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-graduate training or specialist courses in areas such as dysphagia, voice, or specific neurological conditions.
- Experience working within an NHS acute or community setting.
- Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
- Experience in training and supervising junior staff or students.
