Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Provide direct specialized instruction to students in various settings (e.g., resource rooms, co-taught classrooms, pull-out programs) using differentiated teaching methods and adaptive materials.
- Assess student learning and progress regularly, analyzing data to inform instructional decisions and modify IEPs as needed.
- Collaborate effectively with general education teachers, parents, administrators, and related service providers (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists) to support student success.
- Manage student behavior effectively, implementing positive behavior interventions and supports to create a conducive learning environment.
- Participate in IEP meetings, providing expertise and advocacy for students' educational needs.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including progress reports, attendance, and IEP documentation.
- Stay current with best practices, research, and legal mandates in special education through continuous professional development.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment where all students feel safe, valued, and encouraged to learn.
- Communicate regularly and transparently with parents/guardians regarding student progress, challenges, and goals.
Required Skills
- Valid Louisiana teaching certification in Special Education (Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe Disabilities, or equivalent)
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field
- Proficiency in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Strong knowledge of various disabilities and evidence-based instructional strategies for diverse learners
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
- Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs
- Effective classroom management techniques and experience with positive behavior interventions
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and using data to drive instruction
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Special Education or a related field
- Experience working with students across different grade levels (elementary, middle, high school)
- Experience with specific assistive technologies or specialized instructional programs
- Fluency in Spanish or other languages common in the community
- Experience in a co-teaching model or inclusion classroom setting
