Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Social Worker to join our dynamic Human Resources and Community Development team in Phokeng, North West. This pivotal role involves providing comprehensive social support, counselling, and intervention services to our employees and their families, as well as contributing to our broader community engagement initiatives. The successful candidate will be instrumental in identifying social challenges, developing and implementing targeted programs, and facilitating access to essential resources. You will work closely with various departments, community leaders, and external stakeholders to foster a supportive environment and enhance the overall quality of life within our operational areas. This position requires a proactive individual with a strong commitment to ethical practice, exceptional communication skills, and a deep understanding of psychosocial dynamics prevalent in mining communities. You will be a key advocate for mental health and social well-being, playing a critical role in addressing issues such as addiction, family disputes, stress management, and workplace integration. Your work will directly contribute to our commitment to responsible mining and social license to operate, making a significant difference in the lives of many. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional counselling and support services to employees and their families on a wide range of psychosocial issues, including but not limited to stress, grief, family conflict, substance abuse, and financial difficulties.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments to identify needs and develop individualized intervention plans.
  • Facilitate referrals to internal and external support agencies, healthcare providers, and community resources.
  • Develop and implement wellness programs, workshops, and educational initiatives focused on mental health, family stability, and life skills development.
  • Act as a liaison between employees, management, and community structures to ensure effective communication and conflict resolution.
  • Participate in community needs assessments and contribute to the development and execution of Sibanye-Stillwater's social responsibility projects in Phokeng and surrounding areas.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with professional and organizational standards.
  • Advocate for employees' rights and access to services, ensuring fair and equitable treatment.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support during critical incidents or emergencies.
  • Collaborate with HR, Occupational Health, and Safety teams to integrate social support services into overall employee welfare strategies.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
  • Valid registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience in social work, preferably within an industrial, community development, or healthcare setting.
  • Proven experience in individual and group counselling, crisis intervention, and case management.
  • Strong understanding of relevant social legislation, policies, and ethical guidelines in South Africa.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Social Work or a related field.
  • Experience working in mining communities or similar industrial environments.
  • Proficiency in local languages spoken in the Phokeng area (e.g., Setswana).
  • Experience in designing and implementing community development programs.
  • Knowledge of employee assistance programs (EAPs).
