Job Description

Umuryango Children’s Network (UCN) is seeking a highly motivated and creative Social Media Assistant with a strong inclination towards digital marketing to join our passionate team. This is a remote position, offering flexibility while contributing significantly to our mission from Nyagatare, Eastern Province. You will play a crucial role in enhancing UCN’s online presence, engaging with our global community, and supporting our fundraising and advocacy efforts through compelling digital content. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for engaging visuals, excellent writing skills, and a solid understanding of various social media platforms and digital marketing trends. You will work closely with our communications and program teams to tell impactful stories, raise awareness about our work, and inspire action among our supporters and partners. This role is perfect for someone eager to make a tangible difference in the lives of children and families through the power of digital communication, bringing fresh ideas and a proactive approach to our online strategies. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, schedule, and publish engaging content across various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube) in line with UCN’s communication strategy and brand guidelines.
  • Monitor social media channels for mentions, comments, and messages, responding promptly and appropriately to foster community engagement and uphold a positive brand image.
  • Assist in the creation of visual content (graphics, simple videos, photos) using design tools to support social media campaigns and digital marketing initiatives.
  • Conduct research on relevant social media trends, competitor activities, and digital marketing best practices to inform content strategy and optimize performance.
  • Support the planning and execution of digital marketing campaigns, including ad setup and optimization, under the guidance of the communications team.
  • Track and analyze social media performance metrics, preparing regular reports on engagement, reach, and other key indicators to measure success and identify areas for improvement.
  • Maintain an organized content calendar and asset library, ensuring all digital materials are easily accessible and up-to-date.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (programs, fundraising) to gather stories, updates, and impact reports for compelling digital storytelling.
  • Provide administrative support for digital communication efforts as needed, including scheduling meetings and managing digital assets.
  • Stay informed about UCN's programs and initiatives to effectively communicate our mission and achievements to our online audience.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Social Media Assistant or similar role (minimum 12 months)
  • Proficiency in managing and optimizing content on major social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube)
  • Basic graphic design skills using tools like Canva, Adobe Spark, or similar
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Kinyarwanda
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing principles and social media analytics
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Creativity and a passion for storytelling

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations or NGOs
  • Familiarity with social media scheduling tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer)
  • Experience with email marketing platforms and content management systems
  • Basic video editing skills
