Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and execute culinary offerings for small-scale catering events (typically 10-50 guests).
  • Develop bespoke menus in collaboration with clients, considering dietary restrictions, preferences, and event themes.
  • Source high-quality, fresh ingredients from local suppliers, managing inventory and minimizing waste.
  • Oversee all aspects of food preparation, cooking, and artistic plating to the highest culinary and aesthetic standards.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations (e.g., HACCP principles).
  • Manage event logistics, including transportation of food and equipment, setup, and breakdown at various venues.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen and workstation at all times.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, addressing client needs and ensuring satisfaction before, during, and after events.
  • Manage event budgets for ingredients and supplies, providing cost-effective and high-quality solutions.
  • Train and supervise junior assistants or temporary staff when necessary to maintain service excellence.
  • Represent The Cooksisters professionally and enthusiastically at all times, upholding our brand image.

Required Skills

  • Proven culinary expertise and proficiency in various cooking techniques and diverse cuisines.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in catering, restaurant, or hotel kitchen environments, with a focus on small events.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills, capable of handling multiple projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for client interaction and team collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, and manage tasks efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional attention to detail in food preparation, presentation, and quality control.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to navigate Johannesburg and surrounding areas.
  • In-depth knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations; formal certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated creativity, adaptability in menu design, and effective problem-solving skills under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal culinary qualification or diploma from a recognized culinary institution.
  • Experience in event planning or direct client relationship management within the hospitality sector.

  • Food Handler's Permit or relevant advanced food safety certification.
