Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Welder to join our robust maintenance and fabrication team in Harare. This pivotal role involves performing a wide range of welding and fabrication tasks critical to the ongoing operation and maintenance of our heavy industrial machinery and infrastructure. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the structural integrity, efficiency, and longevity of our mining and processing equipment, contributing directly to the safety and productivity of our operations. You will be expected to work with various materials, including steel, stainless steel, and other alloys, employing diverse welding techniques such as Arc, MIG, and TIG. Attention to detail, adherence to strict safety protocols, and the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings are paramount. Key Responsibilities
- Perform various welding tasks including Arc, MIG, and TIG welding on a range of materials, primarily steel and stainless steel.
- Read and accurately interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine layout and procedure.
- Fabricate, assemble, and install metal components and structures for heavy machinery, plant equipment, and infrastructure.
- Inspect welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws, defects, and ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Repair and maintain heavy industrial equipment, including structural repairs, plate work, and pipe welding.
- Operate and maintain welding equipment, ensuring proper calibration and safety checks.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and statutory regulations, including wearing appropriate PPE.
- Assist with routine maintenance and breakdown repairs on various plant and mobile equipment.
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, technicians, and other team members to complete projects efficiently.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Welder in a heavy industrial or mining environment.
- Proficiency in Arc, MIG, and TIG welding processes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Strong knowledge of metal properties and welding best practices.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Solid understanding of safety standards and procedures in a workshop environment.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform welding tasks, including working in confined spaces or at heights.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant Trade Certificate or Diploma in Welding, Fabrication, or Metalwork.
- Experience with plasma cutting and oxy-acetylene cutting.
- Familiarity with mining-specific equipment and machinery maintenance.
- Valid Class 4 driver's license.
