Job Description

The Katsina State Housing Authority is actively seeking a highly skilled, meticulous, and experienced Painter to join our dedicated construction and maintenance team, primarily operating within our projects in Malumfashi, Katsina. This pivotal full-time role will significantly contribute to enhancing the aesthetic quality, durability, and overall longevity of our diverse portfolio of housing projects and essential public facilities across the region. As a Skilled Painter, you will be entrusted with executing a wide spectrum of painting tasks from inception to completion. Your responsibilities will include the meticulous preparation of various surfaces—such as plaster, wood, and metal—through comprehensive scraping, sanding, patching, and applying appropriate primers to ensure optimal adhesion and a flawless finish. You will then be responsible for precisely mixing paints to achieve specific colors and consistencies, followed by the expert application of various finishes, including emulsion, gloss, textured coatings, and protective layers, using brushes, rollers, and spray guns as appropriate. A keen eye for detail is paramount, as you will identify and rectify any imperfections, ensure consistently even coverage, and maintain clean lines and crisp finishes throughout all projects. Furthermore, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding surrounding areas from paint splatters and spills by diligently using drop cloths and masking techniques. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of different paint types, their chemical properties, optimal drying times, and the most effective application techniques for diverse materials and environments. We are looking for an individual who can work efficiently and independently, manage their time effectively across multiple tasks or projects, while also seamlessly collaborating with other skilled artisans, carpenters, masons, and project supervisors. Adherence to strict safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and safe handling of materials, on all job sites is non-negotiable. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces for painting by thoroughly scraping, sanding, cleaning, patching, and filling holes and cracks.
  • Apply primers, paints, varnishes, sealants, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and sprayers with precision.
  • Accurately mix and match paints to achieve specific colors, textures, and finishes as per project requirements.
  • Inspect painted surfaces for imperfections, ensuring smooth finishes and making necessary touch-ups or repairs.
  • Protect surrounding areas, furniture, and flooring with drop cloths and masking tape to prevent paint spills and damage.
  • Clean and maintain all painting tools, equipment, and work areas regularly.
  • Strictly adhere to all safety guidelines, procedures, and proper handling of hazardous materials on job sites.
  • Estimate paint and material quantities needed for various projects, minimizing waste.
  • Collaborate effectively with project managers, supervisors, and other skilled tradespeople.
  • Ensure all work is completed to the highest quality standards, within specified timelines and budget.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a professional Painter with a strong portfolio of work.
  • Excellent knowledge of painting materials, tools, and modern application techniques.
  • Proficiency in comprehensive surface preparation, including sanding, scraping, patching, and priming.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately mix and match paint colors and finishes.
  • Strong attention to detail, a keen eye for aesthetics, and a commitment to quality.
  • Thorough understanding of safety procedures and precautions related to painting work.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform demanding painting tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently, as well as collaboratively within a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal vocational training or a recognized apprenticeship in painting or a related construction trade.
  • Experience working on large-scale residential, commercial, or public infrastructure projects.
