Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fabricator to join our dedicated team in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. As a Fabricator at Express Engineering, you will play a crucial role in the production of precision components and complex assemblies that are integral to our clients’ operations worldwide. You will be responsible for interpreting engineering drawings, cutting, shaping, and assembling various metal structures and components, ensuring every piece meets our stringent quality and specification requirements. Our projects range from intricate sub-assemblies for subsea equipment to robust structures for defence applications, offering a diverse and stimulating work environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret and work from detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Cut, shape, bend, and form various metal materials (e.g., mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium) using appropriate machinery and hand tools.
  • Perform various welding processes (MIG, TIG, Arc) to assemble components and structures to exacting standards.
  • Operate and maintain fabrication machinery, including guillotines, press brakes, grinders, and drilling machines.
  • Inspect finished products for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications, conducting self-inspections and reporting any discrepancies.
  • Assist in the setup and calibration of machinery and equipment.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineers, welders, and other team members to meet production deadlines.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area, ensuring tools and equipment are stored safely and correctly.
  • Identify and report any maintenance requirements for tools or machinery.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Fabricator in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Expertise in various welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, and Arc welding.
  • Skilled in using a range of fabrication tools and machinery (e.g., press brakes, guillotines, grinders, drills).
  • Strong understanding of metal properties and fabrication processes.
  • Excellent mathematical skills for measurements and calculations.
  • High level of attention to detail and precision.
  • Commitment to workplace safety practices.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Fabrication and Welding or equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Apprenticeship in an engineering or fabrication discipline.
  • Experience with overhead cranes and lifting operations (certification beneficial).
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
  • Experience working with exotic materials or high-spec components.
