We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Carpenter & Joiner to join our growing team in Lyttelton, Gauteng. Your role will involve both workshop fabrication and on-site installation, requiring a keen eye for detail, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills. You will be expected to interpret technical drawings, measure accurately, cut and shape timber, assemble components, and ensure a flawless finish. Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements for projects.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood and wood substitutes.
- Construct, erect, install, and repair various wooden structures and fixtures, including cabinetry, shelving, doors, frames, and custom furniture.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently, including saws, routers, planers, and sanders.
- Perform intricate joinery work, ensuring accuracy and aesthetic appeal.
- Conduct on-site installations, ensuring proper alignment, fit, and finish of all components.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all safety regulations and company policies.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, designers, and clients to ensure project success and client satisfaction.
- Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
- Manage time effectively to meet project deadlines and schedules.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience as a Carpenter or Joiner.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
- Expertise in various woodworking techniques, including cutting, shaping, joining, and finishing.
- Demonstrable experience with a wide range of hand and power tools.
- Strong understanding of timber properties and suitable applications.
- Excellent attention to detail and precision in workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to safety protocols and practices on site and in the workshop.
- Valid South African driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal qualification in Carpentry or Joinery (e.g., NQF Level 3 or equivalent).
- Experience in bespoke or custom furniture/cabinetry fabrication.
- Ability to operate CNC machinery (basic understanding).
- Experience with different finishing techniques (staining, varnishing, painting).
- Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to various project challenges.
