GVK Building & Renovations is actively seeking a dedicated and experienced Carpenter to join our growing team in Strand, Western Cape. Key Responsibilities
- Read, interpret, and accurately execute work based on blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate material requirements.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, and other composite materials with exceptional precision.
- Construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, including foundations, frameworks, floors, doors, window frames, stairways, and roofing structures.
- Install high-quality cabinetwork, intricate mouldings, decorative wall panels, and other finish carpentry items to exacting standards.
- Inspect, diagnose, and replace damaged framework, structural components, or other fixtures as needed.
- Accurately estimate material quantities and labor costs for various carpentry projects.
- Maintain an impeccably clean and safe work environment, strictly adhering to all company safety regulations, industry standards, and local building codes.
- Operate power saws, planers, sanders, drills, routers, and other specialized carpentry tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Collaborate effectively with other construction professionals, including electricians, plumbers, general labourers, and project managers, to ensure seamless project progression and timely completion.
- Perform both rough carpentry tasks, such as framing, sheathing, and subflooring, and intricate finish carpentry tasks, including the installation of trim, doors, windows, and custom cabinets.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Carpenter with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
- Excellent and comprehensive understanding of carpentry techniques, methods of installation, and construction best practices.
- Proficient ability to accurately read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and detailed specifications.
- Strong working knowledge and safe operation of a wide range of carpentry tools and equipment, including power tools, hand tools, and advanced measuring devices.
- Exceptional ability to accurately measure, cut, and join materials to precise specifications.
- Solid understanding and strict adherence to all safety guidelines and regulations within the construction industry.
- Good physical condition and stamina, capable of lifting heavy materials (up to 25kg) and working in various weather conditions and challenging environments.
- Outstanding attention to detail, precision, and strong problem-solving capabilities.
- Valid South African driver's license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal Trade certificate or equivalent recognized qualification in Carpentry.
- Current First Aid certification.
- Demonstrable experience with bespoke joinery, custom cabinetry, and intricate woodworking projects.
- In-depth knowledge of local building codes and relevant construction regulations in the Western Cape.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Afrikaans.
