Job Description
This role is crucial for maintaining the safety and security of a prominent retail establishment in Nelspruit (Mbombela) during night hours. As a Night Shift Retail Security Officer, you will be the vigilant guardian, responsible for protecting property, assets, and ensuring a secure environment when the store is closed to the public. This isn’t just about patrolling; it’s about being proactive, having keen observational skills, and acting decisively to prevent potential threats. You will play a vital part in loss prevention, emergency response, and upholding the highest standards of safety. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular patrols of the retail premises, both internal and external, ensuring all entry points are secure.
- Monitor CCTV surveillance systems meticulously for any suspicious activity, unauthorized access, or security breaches.
- Respond promptly and effectively to alarms, incidents, and emergency situations, following established protocols.
- Document all incidents, observations, and daily activities thoroughly in clear and concise reports.
- Inspect and test security equipment regularly to ensure full functionality and report any malfunctions.
- Deter theft, vandalism, and other criminal activities through visible presence and proactive surveillance.
- Control access to the building for authorized personnel and contractors during the night shift.
- Enforce company policies and procedures related to security and safety.
- Liaise effectively with law enforcement agencies when required.
- Perform basic first aid if necessary until professional medical help arrives.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in security, preferably in a retail or commercial environment.
- Valid PSIRA Grade C or B registration (or equivalent recognized security certification in SA).
- Excellent observational and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
- Strong understanding of security protocols and emergency procedures.
- Physical fitness and ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods.
- Reliable and punctual, with a strong work ethic.
- Proficiency in written and verbal English.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with CCTV monitoring and alarm systems.
- Basic First Aid and Fire Fighting certification.
- Valid driver's license and own reliable transport (due to night shift).
- Knowledge of local security laws and regulations.
- Experience in conflict resolution.
