Job Description
Shoprite Holdings Ltd. is seeking a vigilant and dedicated Security Guard for a day shift position within our bustling retail environment in Welkom, Free State. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our customers, staff, and assets. As a Security Guard, you will be the first line of defense against loss, theft, and unauthorized activities, contributing directly to a positive and secure shopping experience. You will be expected to maintain a professional demeanor, possess keen observational skills, and be capable of swift, appropriate action in various situations. Your duties will encompass a broad spectrum of security functions, from proactive patrolling and surveillance to incident response and detailed reporting. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular patrols of the store premises, including sales floors, stockrooms, and perimeter areas, to deter theft and ensure security.
- Monitor CCTV surveillance systems for suspicious activities, security breaches, and potential incidents.
- Respond promptly and effectively to alarms, emergencies, and security incidents such as shoplifting, disturbances, or medical emergencies.
- Apprehend and detain individuals suspected of theft or other criminal acts in accordance with legal guidelines and company policy.
- Complete detailed and accurate incident reports, daily logs, and other required documentation.
- Assist in the opening and closing procedures of the store, ensuring all security protocols are followed.
- Provide excellent customer service by assisting customers with directions, information, and maintaining a visible security presence.
- Enforce company policies and procedures, including those related to entry and exit controls.
- Collaborate with store management and local law enforcement when necessary.
- Conduct bag checks and verify receipts as per store policy, particularly at exits.
- Maintain a safe environment by identifying and reporting potential hazards.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Security Guard, preferably in a retail environment.
- Valid PSIRA Grade C (or higher) registration with a clear record.
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
- Sound knowledge of security procedures and protocols.
- Physical fitness and ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods.
- Basic first aid knowledge.
- Proficiency in written English for report writing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in retail security.
- Valid South African Driver's License.
- Certification in advanced first aid or firefighting.
- Experience with CCTV monitoring software and systems.
- Fluency in additional local languages.
