Job Description
UPDC Plc is seeking a vigilant, dedicated, and professional Security Guard to join our team, specifically assigned to a prestigious gated estate with integrated staff lodging facilities in GRA, Ikeja. This critical, on-site role involves maintaining a secure and safe environment for all residents, staff, and visitors within the premises. As a Security Guard, you will be the first line of defense, responsible for deterring unauthorized access, responding promptly and effectively to security incidents, and diligently enforcing estate rules and regulations to ensure peace of mind for everyone. Your unwavering commitment to safety, keen observational skills, and proactive approach will be paramount in safeguarding property and lives. This is a full-time position requiring an individual with a strong sense of responsibility, impeccable integrity, and the ability to operate effectively and calmly in a structured residential environment. You will work as an integral part of a professional security team, ensuring round-the-clock security coverage and contributing significantly to the overall harmonious and secure living experience within our esteemed estate.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas regularly and meticulously to deter and detect signs of intrusion, ensuring all access points and perimeter fences are secure.
- Monitor surveillance cameras and alarm systems with utmost vigilance, responding promptly and decisively to alerts or suspicious activities.
- Control access to the estate and staff lodging facility; meticulously verify identification of visitors, residents, and vehicles, issuing visitor passes as per protocol.
- Conduct thorough and systematic checks of incoming and outgoing goods and vehicles as per established estate security protocols.
- Respond to emergencies such as fires, medical incidents, or security breaches with urgency and professionalism, following established procedures and contacting appropriate authorities immediately.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and legible records of daily activities, incidents, and observations in a comprehensive logbook.
- Enforce all estate rules and regulations fairly and consistently, ensuring compliance by all occupants and visitors.
- Provide assistance to residents and staff as needed, including directions or general information, while maintaining professional decorum and a helpful attitude.
- Collaborate effectively and respectfully with other security personnel, estate management, and local law enforcement agencies.
- Report any safety hazards, maintenance issues, or suspicious behaviors to the estate management promptly and concisely.
Required Skills
- Proven experience of at least 2 years as a security guard or in a similar protective service role, preferably in a residential or corporate setting.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of security protocols, procedures, and best practices.
- Ability to proficiently operate standard security equipment, including surveillance systems (CCTV) and access control devices.
- Strong observational skills, attention to detail, and effective problem-solving abilities.
- Clear, concise, and effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Physical fitness and ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods, including climbing stairs.
- Demonstrable high level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion.
- Basic first aid knowledge and certification (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred Qualifications
- SSCE/OND qualification or equivalent.
- Previous experience specifically in a residential estate or corporate staff housing security environment.
- Certification in security operations or relevant training (e.g., ASIS, certified security professional).
- Comprehensive knowledge of local security laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in using basic computer applications for record-keeping and report generation.
