No prior school bus driving experience? No problem! We offer comprehensive, paid training to help you obtain your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements. Our program is designed to equip you with all the necessary skills, knowledge, and confidence to safely operate a school bus and manage student passengers effectively. You’ll learn everything from vehicle safety checks and defensive driving techniques to route management and student interaction best practices.
As a School Bus Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of students on designated routes. Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport students to and from school, field trips, and other school-related activities on assigned routes.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, school district policies, and transportation regulations.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure mechanical soundness and safety.
- Maintain appropriate student discipline and ensure a positive, respectful environment on the bus.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, school staff, and supervisors.
- Ensure the cleanliness and operational readiness of the bus both inside and out.
- Attend all required safety meetings, training sessions, and professional development programs.
- Promptly report any incidents, accidents, mechanical issues, or unusual observations to the dispatch or supervisor.
- Manage student loading and unloading procedures safely and efficiently at designated stops.
Required Skills
- Valid driver's license (CDL Class B with P & S endorsements required upon completion of training).
- Clean driving record for the past five (5) years.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug screening.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children and parents.
- Patience, calm demeanor, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Punctuality and reliability are essential for adhering to strict schedules.
- Ability to work split shifts (morning and afternoon routes).
- Physical ability to perform required duties, including walking, sitting, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience working with children or in a customer service role.
- Experience driving large vehicles (trucks, vans, delivery vehicles, etc.) is a plus but not required.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and safety procedures.
- Familiarity with local traffic laws and routes within Florida.
