Job Description
Wilderness Rwanda is seeking an exceptional and passionate Safari Lodge Manager to lead the operations of one of our premier luxury lodges in Rwanda. This is a unique opportunity for a visionary leader to uphold and enhance our reputation for unparalleled guest experiences, operational excellence, and commitment to conservation. The Safari Lodge Manager will be the face of the lodge, responsible for overseeing all aspects of daily operations, ensuring the highest standards of service, guest satisfaction, and financial performance. You will inspire and lead a diverse team, foster a positive and productive work environment, and play a crucial role in maintaining the lodge’s infrastructure and sustainability initiatives. This role requires a dynamic individual with a deep understanding of luxury hospitality, strong leadership capabilities, a keen eye for detail, and a genuine love for the African wilderness and its people. You will manage budgets, implement operational strategies, cultivate strong relationships with guests, staff, and local communities, and ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations. Your leadership will be pivotal in creating unforgettable safari experiences that align with Wilderness Rwanda’s core values of conservation, community, culture, and commerce.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of daily lodge operations, including front office, food & beverage, housekeeping, maintenance, and guiding services.
- Ensure the delivery of exceptional guest experiences, anticipating needs and exceeding expectations at every touchpoint.
- Lead, mentor, and motivate a diverse team of lodge staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and high performance.
- Manage lodge budgets, control costs, optimize revenue, and ensure financial targets are met or exceeded.
- Implement and maintain strict adherence to Wilderness Rwanda's operational standards, policies, and health & safety protocols.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with local communities, government bodies, and conservation partners.
- Oversee inventory management, procurement, and quality control for all lodge supplies and services.
- Ensure the continuous maintenance and upkeep of lodge infrastructure, vehicles, and equipment.
- Champion sustainability and conservation initiatives, ensuring the lodge operates with minimal environmental impact and contributes positively to local ecosystems.
- Handle guest inquiries, feedback, and complaints efficiently and professionally, ensuring swift resolution.
- Prepare regular operational reports for senior management.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive management experience in luxury hospitality, with at least 3 years in a safari lodge or remote resort setting.
- Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Exceptional guest relations and communication skills (written and verbal in English).
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, cost control, and revenue management.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex operations in a challenging and remote environment.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in hospitality management software and standard office applications.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Deep passion for wildlife, conservation, and sustainable tourism.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Kinyarwanda or French.
- Experience working with diverse international clientele.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Previous experience in food and beverage management.
