Are you an experienced, passionate, and certified Safari Guide with an unyielding love for Zimbabwe’s incredible wilderness? Wild Horizons invites you to join our esteemed team in Victoria Falls as a Safari Guide. This is a unique opportunity to lead unforgettable expeditions into some of Africa’s most pristine national parks, including Zambezi National Park and further afield, sharing the magic of the African bush with guests from across the globe. As a Safari Guide with Wild Horizons, you will be the heart of our guests’ safari experience, responsible for their safety, education, and enjoyment. You will interpret the intricate ecosystems, track diverse wildlife, and provide insightful narratives on flora, fauna, and local culture. We are looking for an individual who embodies professionalism, an adventurous spirit, and a deep respect for nature, capable of delivering exceptional service and creating cherished memories for every visitor. This role demands excellent communication skills, robust bush knowledge, and the ability to adapt to dynamic environments while maintaining a calm and authoritative presence. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct engaging and informative game drives, walking safaris, and other guided activities (e.g., boat cruises) in accordance with company standards and national park regulations.
- Ensure the absolute safety and well-being of all guests during activities, adhering strictly to safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Identify and interpret wildlife, birds, and flora, providing accurate and engaging commentary on their behavior, ecology, and conservation status.
- Track animals effectively using traditional and modern methods, ensuring ethical and responsible wildlife viewing.
- Maintain safari vehicles and equipment to the highest standards, conducting daily checks and performing minor field repairs as needed.
- Foster excellent guest relations, anticipate needs, and provide outstanding customer service, adapting to diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Represent Wild Horizons professionally at all times, upholding our brand values and commitment to conservation.
- Keep abreast of environmental changes, wildlife movements, and local conservation initiatives.
- Complete all necessary administrative tasks, including logbooks, reports, and vehicle maintenance records.
Required Skills
- Valid Zimbabwean Professional Guide License (Full-Class)
- At least 3 years (36 months) of proven experience as a Safari Guide in a reputable safari operation, preferably within Zimbabwe
- Extensive knowledge of Southern African flora, fauna, birdlife, ecology, and conservation principles
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification
- Valid Defensive Driving Certificate (PDC) and excellent off-road driving skills
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English
- Strong navigational and tracking abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in remote environments
- High level of physical fitness and endurance
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Professional Guide qualifications (e.g., FGASA Level 2 or higher, or equivalent)
- Proficiency in additional languages (e.g., German, French, Spanish)
- Proven experience in specific Zimbabwean national parks (e.g., Hwange, Mana Pools, Matusadona)
- Basic vehicle mechanics and maintenance knowledge
- Tertiary qualification in Tourism, Conservation, or related field
