Job Description
PEP Stores is seeking an innovative and results-driven Retail Store Manager to lead our operations remotely within the vibrant Odendaalsrus, Free State region. This unique role is designed for a strategic leader who can effectively manage and optimize retail performance from a remote base, overseeing a cluster of local retail initiatives, pop-up stores, or a dedicated local e-commerce fulfilment hub. You will be instrumental in driving sales, managing inventory flow, ensuring exceptional customer experiences, and fostering a high-performing local team, all while leveraging remote communication and management tools. This position requires a blend of traditional retail acumen with strong digital and remote leadership capabilities. The successful candidate will be a proactive problem-solver, adept at data-driven decision-making, and passionate about community engagement and delivering PEP’s promise of value. While the role is primarily remote, occasional on-site visits within the Odendaalsrus region for audits, team meetings, or specific operational needs may be required, allowing for a flexible yet impactful management approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute remote retail strategies to drive sales and profitability across assigned local operations/initiatives in the Odendaalsrus region.
- Utilize remote tools to monitor sales performance, inventory levels, and operational efficiency, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Lead, mentor, and motivate a distributed team of local retail associates or hub staff through virtual meetings and regular check-ins.
- Ensure consistent adherence to PEP Stores' visual merchandising standards and operational policies across all managed retail points.
- Manage customer service protocols remotely, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and timely resolution of inquiries.
- Conduct regular virtual inventory audits, manage stock control, and oversee ordering processes to minimize shrinkage and optimize availability.
- Analyze market trends and competitor activities within the Odendaalsrus area to identify growth opportunities and inform local strategy.
- Prepare comprehensive performance reports and present findings and recommendations to senior management.
- Facilitate virtual training sessions and continuous development for local teams to enhance product knowledge and sales techniques.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, health and safety regulations, and local labor laws.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of retail management experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Proven ability to manage and motivate teams effectively in a remote or distributed setting.
- Strong understanding of retail operations, sales metrics, and inventory management.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and virtual collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with retail management software/POS systems.
- Data analysis skills with the ability to interpret performance metrics and drive strategic decisions.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transport for occasional regional travel.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, or a related field.
- Experience with e-commerce operations or managing multiple small retail units.
- Familiarity with the Odendaalsrus, Free State market and community.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing local marketing initiatives.
